Floating in the emerald ses is a small rocky island celonging to the mighty sea-god Poseidon. Few visit its shores- until Poseidon marries a beautiful islander called Cleito and transforms the island into a rich and fertile palce, with underground canals, a silver-pinnacled temple and a place frir for a god. He names his perfect city Atlantis. But as the years pass, his descendants start to act less like gods and more like men...

This retelling, based on Plato's Timaeus and Critias, with a note by  Geoffrey Ashe, echoes one of the most haunting themes of humankind.
