Building Background

By sorting rocks according to their colour and texture, children begin to think about ways to organise scientific data and collect information by counting numbers of objects within a set.. They also begin to consider properties of objects that allow us to compare and contrast them. Other properties of minerals include hardness, luster (or ability to reflect light), mass and the pattern by which it splits into pieces.
